Weekly Newsletter for The Freelancers: Here is the latest newsletter of the week starting on 16th of December 2019.

Many women who have stopped work or had interrupted work lives to have a family, find they do not have enough money to retire on, even with government welfare or aged pensions.

This is a common problem in many countries. The situation in Australia is explained here

FWG-featured-Women-Facing-Retirement

However, in many developed countries, the aging population and funding those who are finally ceasing work for retirement is a ticking time bomb which is explained by this World Economic Forum article here

What can people, both men and women do about this personally right now? The AARP has not waited. They have already started to help people in this situation as part of their policy.

Kerry Hannon’s article explains retiring part-time in her article here. You can train yourself to follow Kerry Hannon’s advice.

In future newsletters we will continue to address this issue. If you are in this position yourself or have friends or family who would benefit from thinking about this issue, they can reply to this newsletter here or in the comment section of this page.

Much of Kerry’s advice is universal, no matter in which country you live. You can look inside her bestselling book here. We have been building a building an Ultimate Freelancing Library which can be seen and read about by clicking here. Here are some of the Amazon eBooks below which you can look inside of by clicking on the icons:

Motivate Yourself!

“Many people dream about being an entrepreneur, starting
their own business, working for themselves, and living the
good life. Very few, however, will actually take the plunge
and put everything they’ve got into being their own boss.”

– Fabrizio Moreira

Should You Be Motivated To Subscribe To The Entrepreneur.Com Newsletter Too?

Motivate-Yourself

Even if you are not struggling financially because you have high income 9 to 5 jobs, should you be bothered with getting the Entrepreneur.com newsletter?

My view is that you should absolutely be doing this. This is doubly so if you are a millennial and you are carrying high levels of debt or have friends that are in that position. I will explain why.

This month the Entrepreneur.com newsletter, for the segment that I have chosen to follow, had these articles:

  • 10 Lucrative Side Gigs for Millennials Looking to Earn Extra Money
  • How to Qualify for a Business Start-up Loan

You can read these articles here.

These are the types of articles that you should be looking for if you are determined to reduce your home loan quickly and are ready to use your skills to get paid more to do this.

Kathleen Elkins has written Millennial who paid off $8,000 in 90 days explains ‘the only real way to pay off debt quickly for Cnbc.com and you can read here

What these articles should have given more emphasis to, in my opinion, is that you should visit your financial planner and tax accountant before implementing the plan.

They will see immediately there are important taxation strategies to put in place before you go down this path.

For millennials, there are clear reasons why you should be getting the Entrepreneur.com newsletter.

Productivity Tip Of The Week

Managing Remote Teams Can Lift Your Productivity

Managing-Remote-Teams

When I was writing How to Be Self-Employed: A Freelance Work from Home Guide it was produced by a remote team of freelancers whom I employed. Although we were working on the same project, I owned the copyright and the management responsibility for the project.

It was a way of lifting my productivity by bringing together a freelance flash team. These were the main skills of the team members: website technical specialist, eBook specialist, internet technical researcher, graphic designer, and writers.

The contributors were from seven countries, but we never met in person.

As you become more experienced as a freelancer you will realize that this global digital economy is buzzing with creativity, innovation, and ideas. As I write this section of the newsletter one freelancing platform, Freelancer.com has 40,125,694 registered users and 16,900,748 posted jobs.

Jeff Bullas has featured Julia Kravchenko’s article 4 Smart Ways to Manage a Remote Team like a Pro which you can read here

Do you or a friend have a project or productivity project that you want to take on, but need to put together a freelance flash team to complete the project? You could find that this Kindle eBook will help you put it all together: https://amzn.to/2rRj23v

Work-Life Balance Tip Of The Week

Work-Life Balance Is A Top Issue For Moonlighting Freelancers

Work-Life-Balance

When you have two jobs and one is a 9 to 5 and another is moonlighting your skills as a freelancer, work-life balance soon becomes front and centre if you want a happy family life – which is what you are working for!

If you have a skill set that is readily marketable and you can work online at home as a freelancer, it is nearly always preferable to traveling to a co-working space or another business premises.

It is about time management and being available in the early evening for your family routine before starting your moonlighting job. It is also a good idea to involve your family in playing their part in achieving the family freelancing income goal.

Although it is not an easy decision to start freelancing when, as is often the case, both partners are already working, it is going to become increasingly a necessary financial decision.

Here are the views on this issue from three different countries:

Financial Tip of the Week

Can Co-Working Be A Financial Plus For Freelancers?

Co-Working

Some freelancers work better in a co-working environment because of their personalities, while others are more productive working alone. It is a personal decision, but it can have a significant financial impact related to your productivity.

Andrea Bertoli has written Why Co-working is a Key to Freelancer Success for www.Ecopreneurist.com which you can read here. Andrea’s article shows it is a global trend that is changing society and the future of work.

If you are not certain whether you are likely to be more productive in a co-working space or not, Anna Cashman has looked at the research statistics as to how people feel about the transition. Anna’s article for Business.com is 74% of co-workers are more productive and can be read here

Skills Development and Inspiration

We are constantly searching for news articles and videos on skills development and inspiration for freelancers as well as developing our own products.

Each week we have decided to bring you the links to what we consider are the top three articles or videos. This week we thought we would bring you some more TEDx talks on important issues for freelancers:

How to know your life purpose in 5 minutes | Adam Leipzig | TEDxMalibu

https://youtu.be/vVsXO9brK7M

Designing Your Life | Bill Burnett | TEDxStanford

How to manage your mental health | Leon Taylor | TEDxClapham

There are now 5,000 skills in 90 categories that the digital economy can offer, according to Upwork’s 2nd. Quarter 2019 Skills Index which you can read here.

Number fifteen on the list is d3.js. If you are like me, you will probably want to know more about d3.js. I looked it up on Wikipedia and this is a what it is here. What is interesting about Upwork’s list is that there are new digital skills and they are evolving very quickly. Innovation and technology are very important to countries. In Australia this is particularly important because these skills are applicable to country areas impacted by drought. The value of the digital economy to Australia is shown here.

We have been developing an Amazon eBook series on freelancing for those starting out freelancing. Here are some early eBooks listed below. Click on an icon to have a look inside at the index for each one:

Amazon Associates Website Case Study

case-study-1.

As discussed in previous newsletters we are focussing on the niche website in the future because it is producing better results i.e. sales.

We have changed our strategy to include guest posts and this is one from our cybersecurity website. The guest contributor is Alex J.Coyne with Spousal identity theft: more than stolen hearts (click on the link).

We will let you know when another is posted. The goal is to increase traffic and diversify product promotion. There have been approximately 20 Amazon product sales (across all our websites) in the past month due to the keyword research and skills of Mamun, my virtual assistant.

Freelancers And Cyber Security

We have decided to expand our search for appropriate articles for freelancers about cybersecurity and online scams. This is the latest one from Australian Competition and Consumers Commission’s warning about the scam Overpayment scams (click on the link).

Robert Siciliano is an identity theft expert and consultant. He also runs a cyber security and fraud prevention website which you can see here.
